Website Account

The Website Account window lets you view and manage user logins for your MSL website. You can troubleshoot login problems, check if users have logged in with Single Sign-On (SSO), and for users not using SSO, unlock accounts, override validations, reset passwords, and send registration invitations.

MSL login credentials are those where the username and password are set within the MSL System itself, typically through a registration page or by a super admin. Users holding MSL login credentials must access your MSL website using the Login widget.

External SSO login credentials involve usernames and passwords set externally, typically by the University or another parent institution. These credentials enable users to log in with Single Sign-On (SSO) across different platforms. Users with SSO login credentials must use the SSO Login widget to access your MSL website.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

You can access this feature from your MSL Admin site. Only Super Admins with Membership Admins or Site Admins permissions can access the Person's Website Account window.

If you see the message "This person has no user accounts", it means the user hasn't got a login for your MSL website. This applies both to MSL login credentials and those linked to external SSO login credentials.

When a user has external SSO login credentials, the MSL System generates both a MSL login credentials "Username/Password" row and one for the external SSO login. In this case, you can safely ignore the "Username/Password" row.

For further information, see People Overview.

Website Account Fields

This table lists and explains the fields on the Website window.

Field NameDefinition
Account TypeThis field describes how the user accesses your MSL website, whether they set their MSL login credentials themselves, or it was automatically generated when their data record was imported from the University data file and linked to external SSO login credentials.
The options are:
  • Username/Password - Displayed when the user has set their MSL login credentials, usually via your MSL website, rather than via an external Single Sign-On (SSO) login
  • Any Single Sign-On (SSO) provider your MSL System is integrated with, allowing users to log in with external SSO login credentials, for example, Azure AD, SSO (via AAF), ADFS SSO etc.

The SSO account type takes precedence over the Username/Password account type.

User IDFor Username/Password account types, the User ID field shows the username chosen during MSL login credentials setup, which is often the user's email address.
For Single Sign-On (SSO) account types, it displays the expected SSO system ID. This SSO ID may differ from the user's actual username.
Status

Status indicates the stage of the user's login to your MSL website.

The options are:

  • OK - User successfully logged in
  • Pending First SSO Login - User hasn't logged in with SSO yet
  • Locked Out - User attempted to log in with incorrect credentials too many times
  • Not Validated -  User hasn't clicked the validation link in the email
  • Expired - User account has expired because it's older than the maximum account age configured on the User Account Policy window
Last LoginThis field indicates the most recent login with the respective account type.
If this field is blank, it means the user hasn't logged in yet.
Login CountThis field shows how many times the user has logged in with the relevant account type.
Create AccountClick to display the Create Account dialog, where you can set MSL login credentials for the user.
This field is shown when the person has no user accounts.
Reset PasswordClick to open the Reset Password dialog where you can set a new password for the user.
This password is for an account type with MSL login credentials, not for external SSO login credentials, which requires resetting through the University or other parent institution's website or portal.
UnlockClick to Unlock a user account.
The settings for the number of allowed incorrect login attempts before lockout and the duration of the lockout can be configured on the User Account Policy window.
ValidateClick to override the validation email and Validate the user's account, allowing them to log in to your MSL website.
Re-validateClick to resend the validation email to the user.
Send InviteClick to send a Registration Invitation via email.
Set the expiry date, username, welcome page, and choose if users can pick their own username and log in immediately after setting their password.
Delete Account ()Click to Delete the user's website account.
If deleted, it must be manually recreated or the user will need to re-register on your MSL website.

This applies only to account types with MSL login credentials. For SSO account types, once the SSO ID has been set up, it remains in place indefinitely. Contact support@ukmsl.com to discuss the deletion of SSO IDs from website accounts.
