How to Merge Two Accounts with the University Record as the Source Identity

You can access this feature from your MSL System Admin site. Only Super Admins with Membership Admins or Site Admins permissions can access the Merge People window.


Before proceeding, once a merge is completed, it cannot be undone. Therefore, ensure you've selected the correct identities before merging the accounts.


If you receive the message "Cannot merge these identities because of existing records. This has been logged to MSL support", first, search for and remove any duplicate memberships, including expired ones. If issues persist, attempt merging identities in the opposite direction.


If you receive the message "Source and target have overlapping person property records", first, search for and remove any duplicate person properties. For further information, see How to Delete a Person Property.

  1. Log in to your MSL System Admin site at https://[domainname]/msl/. The Home menu is displayed.
  2. From the Home menu, select People. The People submenu is displayed.
  3. Select Merge People. The Merge People window is displayed.
  4. In the Source Identity search box, enter the Person ID, Card Number, Email Address or Name of the user and click Search. A matching user or list of users is displayed. Select the correct user from the list that is displayed.
  5. In the Target Identity search box, enter the Person ID, Card Number, Email Address or Name of the user and click Search. A matching user or list of users is displayed. Select the correct user from the list that is displayed.
  6. Select the Keep Source Identity's User Account? checkbox (if the SSO login is associated with the Source Identity).
  7. Take note of the user's Card Number, then click Merge. A confirmation dialog is displayed.
  8. Click OK. You are returned to the Merge People window.
  9. Click People in the breadcrumb trail. The People submenu is displayed.

  10. In the Search for People section, in the search box, enter the relevant Person ID, Card Number, Name or Email Address and click Search. A matching user or list of users is displayed.
  11. Click on the name of the relevant Person. The Person menu is displayed.
  12. Click University. The Person's University Details window is displayed.
  13. In the Find University Record section, in the Card Number search box, enter the user's Card Number and click Check.
  14. Click Link This Card Number. A confirmation dialog is displayed.
  15. Click Yes - Link This Card. You are returned to the University Details window, where the Card Number is re-linked to the user's account.
  16. Review and update any remaining details, such as their contact information.
