Referendum Results

After the polling period ends, run the count to determine whether the Motion(s) in your Referendum are deemed to be carried or not. When you generate the result of your motion, you can use either the Simple or Absolute majority.

You can access this feature from your MSL System Admin site. Only Super Admins with Election Admins or Site Admins permissions can access the Results windows.

Referendum Results Fields

This table lists and explains the Referendum Results fields.


Field NameDefinition
OrganisationThis is the name of the Organisation to which the Referendum belongs.
TitleThis is the name of the Referendum.
TypeThis is the sort of vote you are running, whether that is a vote for a candidate (an Election) or a vote on a question (a Referendum).

This field is displayed only in the Results window.

Polling DatesThese are the dates between which votes are submitted.
MotionThis is the name of the Motion added to the Referendum.
New Result

Select New Result to open the Get Result dialog. This is where you can optionally select the Use Simple Majority checkbox, and click Get Result to open the Result Details window.

This field is displayed only in the Referendum Results window.

Results

This is where, if a result has been generated, the result is displayed letting you see at a glance which motions have been deemed to be carried, and which haven't. 

The options are:

  • The motion was deemed to be CARRIED
  • The motion was deemed to be NOT CARRIED

View

Click to open the relevant motion's Result Details window.

Use Simple MajorityIf the Use Simple Majority checkbox is selected, a motion is deemed to be carried when there are more votes in favour than votes against. Abstention votes are not assimilated into votes against. 

If the Use Simple Majority checkbox is not selected, the motion is deemed to be carried when the votes in favour represent more than 50% of valid votes. Votes against and abstentions are both counted as negative votes.

This field is displayed only in the Get Results dialog.

MethodThis field states if the Use Simple Majority checkbox was selected or not, and therefore whether a Simple or Absolute Majority should be obtained before the motion is deemed to be carried.
This field is displayed only in the Result Details window.
VotesThis is the total number of votes cast for the selected motion, including abstentions, if applicable.
This field is displayed only in the Result Details window.
QuorumIf applicable, this field displays the Quorum entered on the New Motion or Edit Motion window.
Should the vote count not reach quorum, the result is still displayed in the Result Details window, however, a message is displayed to confirm that quorum was not reached.
This field is displayed only in the Result Details window.
ChoiceThis lists the options available to voters on the ballot.
This field is displayed only in the Result Details window.
VoteThis lists the number of votes cast for each Choice.
This field is displayed only in the Result Details window.
Approve ResultClick to Approve the results. This is for information only and helps colleagues see which result was announced as final if you generated it more than once.
This field is displayed only in the Result Details window.
